Buckling

Stability of thin shell structures

From its beginning, EC2-MS has worked continuously on buckling problems in the following sectors : aerospace (Ariane programme IV, V and V Evolution), nuclear, naval and aeronautics.

Thanks to the research works of the INSA de LYON laboratory URGC Structures and of the CEA SACLAY LAMS, EC2-MS has gained a solid background and a unique know-how in structural stability analysis. With sophisticated simulation methodology, we can study precisely any kind of structure buckling :

  • Classification according to the domain where the buckling appears : linear elastic , non linear geometric and/or material
  • Buckling type identification : bifurcation, limit point, local, global
  • Geometric imperfections and sensitivity to the boundary conditions
  • Post-critical study
EC2-MS has set up a large amount of numerical tools to handle various kind of projects, and commercialises a finite elements software dedicated to thin shell analysis : STANLAX.
