EC2-MS was created in 1998 by its current manager, in collaboration with the INSA de LYON, in order to optimize and develop relationship between laboratories and industries.

In the late 1990s, the URGC Structure laboratory of INSA de LYON, in collaboration with the LAMS laboratory of CEA of SACLAY, ended a research program about buckling of thin shells. It can be summarized by the following points : 20 years of continuous research, 25 PhD, more than 100 papers, the development of the dedicated software STANLAX, and the edition of EUROCODE design rules.

Once the research program on shell buckling was concluded, the
interest of the two laboratories started to decrease, while industries were
increasingly looking for assistance to design their structures accounting
for buckling effects. Therefore, the idea came up : the creation of a specific independent
firm, in order to retrieve the laboratory's skills so as to reply to industrial needs.

The advantages of such organisation can be equaly divided between the different partners :
  • The laboratory preserves its relationship with industries even if there is no real further scientific interest (no further publications)
  • The industry can access quickly to the skills developed in the laboratories
  • EC2-MS benefits from the image and reputation of the laboratories of INSA de LYON and its customer network

EC2-MS activity focuses on numerical simulation in mechanics, thermomechanics and heat transfer, with a renowned experience in the following fields :
EC2-MS excels in all fields of numerical simulation in mechanics, thermomechanics and thermal transfer
